There is a world of difference between sitting and sitting properly. Importantly, the “properly” part of sitting has very little to do with decorum and everything to do with your health and longevity.
There are many sources of information available to help you learn how to sit properly, whether you are seated in your dining chair, your living room, in a restaurant, or at our desk in your office. Here are the ‘Cliff Notes’ version of how to sit properly while working at your desk in your office:
- Sit at about an arm’s length away from your computer screen. Ideally, the top of the monitor should be level with your eyes.
- Sit up straight and avoid slouching. Your neck should be in a relaxed and neutral position.
- Keep your arms parallel to the floor.
- Sit with both feet flat on the floor, and avoid crossing your legs. This is to allow correct blood circulation within your legs.
